Carnelian
Drop-Bead
Necklace
This 24 inch long
stunner is
made from huge carnelian nugget beads and Indian chalcedony.
Carnelian
is actually a form of chalcedony, so the stones look beautiful
together.
They are accented by Indian pot-metal beads and Bali sterling
silver.
This is a very substantial necklace, not for the faint-of-heart!

Ethiopian
Telsum
Bead Necklace
This necklace is
handcrafted
primarily from antique African trade beads. It is approximately
18
inches long and contains 1800s Venetian whiteheart trade beads from
West
Africa, pipestone from Ghana (also called bauxite, although some people
say these are different materials~~I don’t know), red and white striped
Bohemian trade beads also traded in West Africa. The
center-pieces
are older Telsum amulets, handmade in Ethiopia. The wire,
hook,
and chain are all sterling silver. This necklace is a
one-of-a-kind
original.

Afghani Lapis Necklace
Handmade in Afghanistan
The leaf-shaped
pendant is 1
inch across, 1 1/2 inches high, excluding the dangles, and is 19 inches
in total length. The metal is a silver/tin alloy called
"gillett."
Made in Afghanistan, these necklaces were brought by stealth to
Pakistan
to be shipped out, avoiding the Taliban. Lapis lazuli, the deep
blue
stone bead, has been prized since neolithic times. It is only mined in
the Badakshan district of Afghanistan. The mine entrance is up a very
steep
hill, and the path has leftover landmines which were dropped by
Russians
during the Afghan war. The Afghani miners send their bags of lapis down
the hill ahead of them, to set off any unexploded mines. This necklace
has incredible metalwork detail!
